Sequined Butterfly Bench

I made this butterfly shaped bench for my 12th grade school board project. It has been carved in wood and is covered entirely with sequins. The seating is covered with a light purple silk cloth.
I was inspired to make this bench as it signifies my metamorphosis from a school going girl to a young adult and marks  my entry into a new stage of life. Like the butterfly I am now ready to venture out on my own and live my dreams. This  piece means a lot to me as it represents me. The bright colors and shiny sequins really make it unique and quirky. It was painfully laborious to create, but the outcome was undoubtedly worth it! It is my favorite piece of work. The best part about this bench is that it is absolutely functional.

Nazre

This is an indian theme painting done on a canvas board using poster paints. The face in the center is of "Durga" an Indian Goddess who is considered to be the mother of the universe and believed to be the power behind the work of creation, preservation, and destruction of the world. The four lotuses around her represent the lotus temple in india where everyone can go to worship regardless of their religion. People in india are strong believers of fate and "karma" and visit temples and try to bribe god into protecting them, or blessing them by making offerings. On either side of her is the holy indian cow a symbol of food and life. Vedic scripture dictates they should be treated “with the same respect as one’s mother.” All the components in the painting are tied together through belief in superstition and animism. Indians believe that Durga protects all her devotees from all evil. The evil eyes in the background,Durga's eye and the cows eyealso symbolize protection from the evil gaze of the one who who casts it. The "auto-rikshaw" on the top and bottom is considered to be the most common mode of public transport in India. Through them the message I'm trying to send is that people should not resort to idol or animal worship for protection and fulfillment of their wishes. Instead they should "move away" from all this and control their own future and fate, not look for the easy way out by depending on the "act of god" for everything. They should have faith in their own abilities to mould their future.

Nirvana

One of favorite doodle pieces! I call it Nirvana as the sadhu is trying to attain the state of nirvana amidst all the chaos of life.

Katy Perry multimedia canvas

My favorite piece of work! Katy Perry is one of my favorite artistes, and i absolutely LOVE her quirky and bold sense of style! I love everything bright and shiny and have used sequins, buttons, wrapping and candy paper, paper flowers, magazine cutouts, etc to make this piece.

Apollo and Artemis

My first canvas painting! Done on a canvas board using poster paints.
Apollo and Artemis are believed to be the children of Zeus and Leto in greek mythology.
Apollo was the god of music and healing. He was also an archer, and hunted with a silver bow. Artemis was the goddess of the hunt and the protector of women in childbirth. She hunted with silver arrows and loved all wild animals.

Duality

Tiger painting made on a canvas board using poster paints.
The two sides represent the duality of man. While on one side he is trying to save the tiger, he is destroying it's natural habitat on the other.

Homer Simpson Repeat Pattern

Who doesn't love Homer Simpson?! The greatest fictional creation of modern time.
So heres a tribute to one of my favorite characters on television :)
A repeat pattern created using poster paints on an A3 size ivory sheet.

Kainchi

Funky neon design of scissors and the blue bits around them connected by a "stitch" pattern made using poster paints on an A3 size ivory sheet.

I was inspired to make this piece by the old indian fable called "Kainchi aur Sui".
This is how it goes-

A tailor was at work. He took a piece of cloth and with a pair of shining, costly, scissors, he cut the cloth into various bits.
Then he put the pair of scissors at his feet. Then he took a small needle and thread and started to sew the bits of cloth, into a fine shirt. When the spell of sewing was over, he stuck the needle on to his turban.
The tailor's son who was watching it asked him: "Father, the scissors are costly and look so beautiful. But you throw them down at your feet. This needle is worth almost nothing; you can get a dozen for an Anna. Yet, you place it carefully on your head itself. Is there any reason for this illogical behaviour?"
"Yes, my son. The scissors have their function, no doubt; but they only cut the cloth into bits. The needle, on the contrary, unites the bits and enhances the value of the cloth. Therefore, the needle to me is more precious and valuable. The value of a thing depends on its utility, son, not on its cost-price or appearance."
Similarly, there are two classes of people in the world-those who create dissensions and disharmony, who separate man from man; and those who bring about peace and harmony, who unite people.
The former are generally the rich people, powerful politicians and kings; the latter are Generally the poor devotees of God, the penniless wandering monks, and mendicants.
The Lord throws down on the dust the mighty kings and millionaires who create wars and disharmony; and He keeps the poor, pious devotee over His own head. In His eyes the scale of values is entirely different.

Tree Of Life

Merged two pencil sketches of mine (the girl and the tree) to make this illusion on pixlr.
In the Book of Proverbs, the tree of life is associated with wisdom: "[Wisdom] is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her, and happy is every one that holdest her fast."
First digital piece :)

Masked Illusion

Masked Illusion is a painting made using poster paints on an A3 size ivory sheet.
It represents the illusion that one must create to conform to societal expectations. The individuals true personality and potential is masked by what people want him to be and what he pretends to be.
